The 13th-ranked Virginia men’s cross country team squared off against an elite field at the Washington Invitational in Seattle, Washington, emerging unscathed in fourth place Saturday.
The field of competitors was likely one of the toughest before postseason action — five of the 11 teams present rank among the nation’s top 10.
No. 2 Northern Arizona won the event with 62 points, with second-place No. 20 UCLA 10 points behind the Lumberjacks. Sixth-ranked Stanford was third with 92 points, and the Cavaliers finished with 112. No. 26 Oklahoma rounded out the team top five.
Virginia ran in a tight pack — all members of the scoring five finished in the top 27. Junior Kyle King, who placed 19th, was the first Cavalier to cross the finish line. Sophomores Connor Rog and Thomas Madden finished back to back in 20th and 21st place, respectively. Junior Zach Herriott finished in 25th place and sophomore Adam Visokay was right behind in 27th.
The Virginia men rest until the ACC Championship on Oct. 31 at Panorama Farms in Earlysville, Virginia. Before that, the Virginia women will compete in the Wisconsin adidas Invitational on Oct. 17.
