SBTRKT delivers latest triumph on new album

Electronic artist’s latest effort avoids genre pitfalls

Listening to electronic artist SBTRKT forces you to re-evaluate what makes a good and entertaining musical artist.

The first listen will catch any music appreciator off guard. His style is unique, but his skill with composing great music is unparalleled — enjoyable for even those who don't appreciate electronic music. SBTRKT’s projects are varied, and he has successfully made himself a recognizable artist in his own right.

SBTRKT’s latest album, “Wonder Where We Land,” is an interesting step in his evolution. He exemplifies a more refined sound and makes use of an interesting set of vocal collaborators throughout. Long-time collaborators Jessie Ware and Sampha are featured, in addition to other artists such as Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend, Caroline Polachek of the band Chairlift, Warpaint, A$AP Ferg and newer artists like Denai Moore and Raury.

The vocals and musical composition work hand-in-hand to create a perfectly crafted sound — grabbing the listener's attention even on tracks without vocals. The album's flow is fantastic, with each track seamlessly leading to the next.

From bass-pounding jams to more laid-back songs, this album is brimming with hits. After the release of “New Dorp. New York” this summer, fans were reassured of SBTRKT’s unfailing dedication to his genre and craft for his next album — even if few understood exactly what the song was about.

It comes as no surprise, then, that “Wonder Where We Land” is on track to be one of the best albums of the year. In an age of dismally few original electronic music artists, audiences can find solace in SBTRKT, knowing they’ve found a gem in the genre.
