For the second consecutive year, Virginia cross country will send both its men’s and women’s teams to the NCAA Championships.
The No. 28 Cavalier men won the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships Friday at E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park, tallying 75 points. They finished ahead of No. 16 Furman — which trailed by only four points — as well as No. 22 North Carolina and Eastern Kentucky.
Four Virginia men received All-Southeast Region honors. Sophomore Adam Visokay was the first Cavalier to finish, coming in sixth place. Junior Kyle King placed seventh, while junior Zach Herriott placed 11th and freshman Chase Weaverling placed 24th.
The Virginia women came in second with 82 points. Meet champion William & Mary had 74 points, and No. 11 North Carolina finished immediately behind the Cavaliers with 94 points.
Three Cavalier women earned All-Southeast Region honors. Graduate students Iona Lake and Morgan Kelly placed third and fourth, respectively, while sophomore Sarah Fakler finished 11th.
Both teams will travel to the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, Indiana Saturday for the NCAA Championships.
