DiCamillo, Spisak pin down titles at Hokie Open as 11 Cavaliers place in tourney

No. 14 redshirt senior Joe Spisak captured the 141-pound championship Sunday in Blacksburg, Virginia. 

In a stellar performance by Virginia wrestling (3-0), 11 Cavaliers placed at Sunday’s Hokie Open at Rector Field House in Blacksburg, Virginia.

No. 10 sophomore George DiCamillo was the champion of the 133-pound bracket. DiCamillo won all four of his matches, including an injury default against 12th-ranked senior Nick Soto of Chattanooga.

Not to be outdone, 14th-ranked senior Joe Spisak also ran the table to claim first place at 141 pounds. Spisak’s championship-sealing win came by way of a 7-1 decision against No. 16 sophomore Joey Ward of North Carolina.

Redshirt freshman Tyler Askey came in second place at 184 pounds. Junior Nick Herrmann and sophomore James Suvak took third at 125 and 184 pounds, respectively.

Redshirt junior Zach Nye placed third in the 197-pound bracket. He won his first two matches before forfeiting the remainder.

Virginia will return home Saturday, Nov. 15 for duals against No. 22 North Dakota State and Gardner-Webb.
