The No. 9 Virginia women’s tennis team extended its win streak to three matches on Saturday with a 7-0 blanking at Louisville.
The Cavaliers (15-4, 8-2) played three matches during the week — a rare occurrence — and cruised by in all three victories. The team outscored its opponents 20-1 on the week, only dropping one point in a singles match against Boston College on Wednesday.
On Saturday, Virginia quickly clinched the doubles point over the Cardinals (10-12, 2-7) with wins on courts one and three. Juniors Danielle Collins and Skylar Morton won 8-3 on court one, while junior Julia Elbaba and freshman Cassie Mercer secured the point with a 8-3 win on court three. When the point was clinched, juniors Stephanie Nauta and Maci Epstein were leading 7-4 on court two.
In singles, the Cavaliers swept Louisville with six two-set matches. No. 3 Elbaba won 6-0, 6-1 on court one. Morton won 6-1, 6-3 on court four and No. 34 Nauta won 6-4, 6-1 on court three to clinch the match. No. 31 Collins added a 6-1, 6-1 victory on court two. Epstein and Faure also won on courts five and six, respectively.
Virginia does not play again until a big match at second-ranked North Carolina on Friday, April 10. The match is set to begin at 3 p.m.
