Fall’s most anticipated television

A&E gets excited for returning and new Fall TV shows

After a great summer of television, the leaves are falling and fall programs are returning. 2015 was ruled by Netflix, but this fall, Amazon is looking to make its mark. Here are the some of the most anticipated television shows this fall season.

“Fargo” (FX)

After a breathtaking first season, “Fargo” is using the anthology format to completely reinvent itself for its second season. The second season is set in the late 1970’s in a small Minnesota town during the winter and follows the younger version of a character from the first season. The next season of “Fargo” looks to deliver with more dark humor, stylized deaths and even incorporates Ronald Reagan as a recurring character. Season 2 of “Fargo” premieres Oct. 12 on FX.

“Empire” (FOX)

Nobody was expecting the first season of “Empire” to be the sensation it was. After continuously shattering ratings record, FOX renewed the show for a 18-episode season. Expect some huge guest stars such as Mariah Carey, Pitbull and Ludacris, and of course another season of soapy fun, led by fan favorite Cookie Lyon (Taraji P. Henson). Season 2 of “Empire” premieres Sept. 23 on FOX.

“Jane the Virgin” (The CW)

Perhaps the biggest surprise of last fall was when The CW, a network known more for its pretty actors than smart television, released “Jane the Virgin.” Right out of the gate, “Jane” broke new ground on the television landscape in following a Latino family. The first season was one of the best of 2014, and one can only hope that “Jane” continues to break down barriers and provide a fun viewing experience. Season 2 of “Jane the Virgin” premieres Oct. 12 on The CW.

“Transparent” (Amazon)

Last September, “Transparent” came out of nowhere to become a phenomenon. In a time when transgender issues are dividing many, “Transparent” uses the premise of an elderly father, played by the incredible Jeffrey Tambor, coming out as a woman for an accessible viewing experience. The writing is extremely sharp, and the naturalistic tone makes the show extremely authentic and addicting. Season 2 of “Transparent” premieres Dec. 4 via Amazon.

“The Man in the High Castle” (Amazon)

With the pilot already available to view, “The Man in the High Castle” looks to be a thrilling and exciting new series. Based on the book of the same name, “High Castle” is set in the 60’s and follows various characters in a world where America lost World War II. Early reviews of future episodes look promising, and Amazon may have another hit on their hands. The show officially premieres Nov. 20.

“Supergirl” (CBS)

As DC Comics’ attempts to keep up with the content put out by Marvel, “Supergirl” is finally coming to television. In an move to test out a female-driven superhero series, CBS is hoping “Supergirl” will be the smash that fans of the comics are pining for. With a relatively unknown lead actress in Melissa Benoist, “Supergirl” is a huge gamble. The show premieres Oct. 26.

“Heroes: Reborn” (NBC)

Five years after the sudden cancellation of “Heroes,” NBC is revisiting the world with a thirteen-part “event-miniseries.” Continuing from the original series, “Heroes: Reborn” begins five years after the season four finale where the world is a different place. The public is now aware of the superhuman abilities, and after a terrorist attack in Texas, those with powers are hunted down. “Heroes: Reborn” should be a wild and nostalgic ride. The show premieres Sept. 24.

“Scream Queens” (FOX)

The newest show from “Glee” and “American Horror Story” executive producer Ryan Murphy, “Scream Queens” is Murphy’s way to combine the two things he crafts best: scares and cheese. “Scream Queens” follows a college sorority under attack as a serial killer targets them one by one. With a massive ensemble full of frequent Murphy collaborators including Emma Robert and Lea Michele, “Queens” will either be really fun or really horrible. The show premieres Sept. 22.
