Junior outside hitter Haley Cole and Virginia defeated Boston College Friday before falling to Syracuse in five sets Sunday afternoon.

The Virginia volleyball team swept Boston College Friday night at Power Gym in Chestnut Hill, Mass. before falling at Syracuse in five sets Sunday afternoon. The Cavaliers (13-6, 5-3 ACC) — who have played 14 of 19 matches away from Memorial Gymnasium this year — now host eight of 12 matches to close out the regular season.

The straight-sets victory over struggling Boston College (9-11, 1-7 ACC) gave Virginia 600 wins since 1979, when the Cavaliers finished 8-16 in their inaugural season. Junior outside hitter Haley Kole starred in the 25-19, 27-25, 27-25 win, registering a 13-kill, 10-dig double-double. The Tallahassee, Fla. native also served up three of Virginia’s six aces.

Senior middle hitter Natalie Bausback added 13 kills and eight digs for the Cavaliers, while senior outside hitter Katty Workman racked up 11 kills and 10 digs for Boston College. The Eagles have lost five consecutive matches, all in straight sets, since a 3-0 win against Notre Dame Oct. 2.

Sunday afternoon, Virginia received standout performances up and down the lineup, but the Cavaliers remained winless against Syracuse (15-4, 6-2 ACC) in coach Dennis Hohenshelt’s tenure. Virginia rallied from a set down to force a decisive fifth set, and in the fifth, the Cavaliers held match point at 14-13. But the Orange grabbed the next three points to send Virginia packing.

Kole again came up with a double-double, tallying 11 kills and a career-high 14 digs. Bausback picked up 16 kills and 12 digs, while senior setter Lauren Fuller dished out a career-high-tying 60 assists. Freshman middle hitter Anna Walsh, though, enjoyed perhaps the most dominant night, with a career-high 20 kills on a .593 attack percentage.

Senior outside hitter Nicolette Serratore totaled 18 kills and 18 digs for Syracuse.

Virginia hosts Notre Dame and Louisville this Friday and Saturday night at 7 p.m.
