1 fatality in Charlottesville shooting on South 1st street

Victim killed during alleged home invasion attempt

Charlottesville police responded to a possible burglary Saturday night at an apartment on South 1st street, according to a press release. On the scene they discovered a man with a gunshot wound who was later declared dead at the University Medical Center.

Distributed by Lieutenant Steve Upman, Neighborhood Services Bureau commander of the CPD, the release said the shooting followed “an apparent attempted home invasion robbery.”

The victim, Floyd Randolph Alston, Jr., was shot in a subsequent struggle. A woman and child who were in the residence at the time of the invasion did not sustain injuries.

No further details are being released by the department as an investigation is still in its early stages, the release said.
