The Virginia women’s volleyball team had a rough weekend, as it dropped two consecutive 3-0 losses against Miami and Florida State. The Cavaliers (15-10, 7-7 ACC), losers of five of their last seven matches, have now suffered three consecutive losses.
Virginia started off both matches competitively, playing tough in the first sets against both Miami (17-7, 10-4 ACC) and Florida State (19-6, 12-2 ACC), losing 25-20 and 31-29, respectively. However, the Cavaliers could not conjure up enough plays to eke out either first set.
The second and third sets in both matches saw the Hurricanes and Seminoles pull away, though not without Virginia putting up a fight. And as the regular season is winding down, it is important the team build on the positives from the match against Florida State.
There were a few bright spots, however: Senior middle hitter Natalie Bausback joined a prestigious club, as she became only the 17th Virginia women’s volleyball player to reach 1,000 kills.
After starting off the season with an impressive 13-5 record, the Cavaliers now sit at 15-10. Most of their struggles have come on the road where they are a meager 5-7. Virginia is 7-2 at home and 3-1 at neutral sites.
Virginia will look to get back on track as they prepare for a four game home stand against four ACC rivals.
