Men’s tennis commences ITA Championships

The top-ranked Virginia men’s tennis team is set to kick off the ITA National Men’s Team Indoor Championships with a first-round matchup against No. 16 San Diego. The tournament, which features the top 16 teams in the country, is scheduled to begin Friday and end with a champion being crowned Monday.

The Cavaliers enter this game 5-0, coming off an impressive 6-1 win against No. 9 UCLA, while the Toreros come into the game 4-1 after being swept by the same Bruins team the Cavaliers beat Tuesday. In this first-round matchup, the Cavaliers will be heavily favored, but know not to overlook this talented San Diego team. While zeroing in, the team will rely on the veteran leadership of No. 5 Senior Ryan Shane and No. 6 Junior Thai-Son Kwiatkowski to lead the Cavaliers. Among the top threats on San Diego’s team are No. 20 Uros Petronijevic and No. 24 Jordan Angus.

The match is set to begin Friday at 6:30 p.m. and be held on Virginia’s home court at the Boar’s Head Sports Club. As prohibitive favorites, the Cavaliers hope to advance without too much trouble and prepare for a deep run in the tournament.
