The No. 3 Virginia women’s rowing team swept all five races at the Rivanna Reservoir against Duke on Saturday morning. The Cavaliers dominated in their final home race of the season, which was also Senior Day.
Heavy winds began before the First Varsity Eight and Third Varsity Eight races. The First Varsity Eight — featuring seniors Mackenzi Sherman, Tessa Dikkers, Maxime Lubbers and Sam Casto — finished in 6:58.9, 20 seconds ahead of the Blue Devils.
The First Varsity Four boat had the closest race of the day, with a time of 7:29.1 to Duke’s 7:32.1. Senior Chelsea Adams was in the 2 seat.The Second Varsity Eight included two seniors, Jennifer Reid and Hannah Solis-Cohen. The boat finished in 6:48.4 ahead of Duke’s 7:05.9.
In the Second Varsity Four race, three Cavalier crews competed, and all finished ahead of Duke’s boat. Seniors Madelyn Clark and Grace Tuttle were in the B boat. Clark and Tuttle also rowed in the Third Varsity Eight boat, which crossed the finish line first in 7:28.0.
The Cavaliers’ will next race at the Clemson Invite this weekend, where the Cavaliers will see top ACC and NCAA competition.
