The No. 19 Virginia women’s golf team finished in 11th place this weekend at the Annika Intercollegiate tournament in Reunion, Fla.
The Cavaliers were solid the tournament’s first two days, shooting 287 (1-under) in the first round and 285 (3-under) in the second round.
However, the team had a rough final day. Entering the third round in 9th place, Virginia shot 297 (9-over) in the final round to give the team an 869 (5-over) combined score, dropping them back to 11th place in the final standings.
No. 4 Southern California won the tournament with a combined score of 840 (24-under). The tournament was very competitive, with five teams from last spring’s NCAA Championship quarterfinals present.
The most outstanding performer for the Cavaliers was sophomore Anna Redding. Redding shot a 210 (6-under) to finish the tournament individually tied for 11th place. The score is Redding’s new career best, topping her previous personal record of 216 at last year’s ACC Championships.
Virginia will next compete at the Tar Heel Invitational Oct. 14 to 16. It will be another competitive tournament, giving the Cavaliers’ young players more experience against top competition as they continue to prepare for the spring postseason. The Cavaliers finished No. 9 at the Tar Heel Invitational last year.
