Rowing
What: 2017 NCAA Rowing Championships
Where: West Windsor, N.J.
When: May 26-27
The Skinny: This weekend, the No. 10 Virginia women’s rowing team will compete in the 2017 NCAA Rowing Championships on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J. After receiving an automatic bid by claiming their eighth consecutive ACC championship May 14, the Cavaliers will look to capture their third overall team title.
It will be an uphill battle for each of Virginia’s boats as they look to advance to Saturday’s semifinals with their Friday morning races. The Cavaliers’ Varsity Eight and Varsity Four come in seeded twelfth and eighth respectively, while the Second Varsity Eight is seeded No. 11.
This marks Virginia’s 20th year qualifying for the National Championships since the event was first held in 1997, thanks in part to their sustained dominance in the ACC conference. Last year at the National Championships, the Cavaliers placed third overall, their best finish since their 2012 national title run.
Live results and video streaming can be found at VirginiaSports.com and NCAA.com. Virginia’s first race begins Friday at 9:36 a.m.

When: May 26-31
The Skinny: The Virginia men’s golf team will compete in the NCAA Championships starting this Friday at the Rich Harvest Farms golf course in Sugar Grove, Ill. It will be the 17th time in program history that Virginia has competed in this tournament.
The Cavaliers qualified for the NCAA Championships after placing fourth in their NCAA Regional last week in Baton Rouge, La. In order to be eligible for the NCAA Championships, a team must finish in the top five at one of the six NCAA regional tournaments.
Virginia enters the NCAA Championships as the No. 18 team in the country, according to golfstat.com. The favorite to win the tournament is No. 1 Southern California, coming off a first-place finish in their NCAA Regional in Sammamish, Wash.
The NCAA Championships will also include some familiar opponents for Virginia. In addition to the Cavaliers, there are three other teams competing from the ACC in the 30-team field — Florida State, Clemson and Duke.
Virginia will look to seniors Derek Bard and Jimmy Stanger to lead the team in what will be the duo’s final college tournament. Bard and Stanger, who each made the All-ACC team this spring, are among the most decorated players in Virginia men’s golf history. They will look to close their collegiate careers on a high note.
