The Virginia dive team competed at the three-day-long Frank Elm Invitational in Piscataway, N.J. at Rutgers this past weekend. The Cavaliers did not send swimmers to compete in this meet.
Junior Kylie Towbin won the women’s platform diving event with a score of 270.05, a Virginia school record. Towbin also finished second in the women’s three-meter diving event and eighth in the women’s one-meter.
Virginia sophomore Sydney Dusel and freshman Jocelyn Porter finished third and fourth, respectively, in both the women’s one-meter and platform diving events, while senior Corey Johnson finished ninth in the one-meter dive, winning the consolation heat, and sixth in the platform dive.
Dusel and Porter both set personal records in the platform, while Porter also set a personal record in the one-meter.
The platform event of the Frank Elm Invitational was the first time all year that the Virginia divers had been above five meters, including in practice.
In the women’s three-meter dive, Towbin finished second, Dusel finished fifth, Johnson finished ninth and Porter finished 12th.
Freshman Tristan Gess was the only men’s diver to compete for Virginia. Gess finished sixth out of 15 competitors in the men’s three-meter dive, setting a personal record, and tenth out of 18 competitors in the men’s one-meter dive. Gess did not compete in the men’s platform.
Sophomore Bryce Shelton, the other Virginia men’s diver, did not compete this weekend.
The next meet for the Cavaliers is the UGA Fall Invite at the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga. Dec. 1-3.
