Virginia Coach Bronco Mendenhall has led the Cavaliers to their first bowl since 2011.

Virginia accepted a bid to the Military Bowl Sunday to face off against the Navy Midshipmen in Annapolis, Md. Dec. 28.

It will be the Cavaliers’ first appearance in the Military Bowl, and the team’s first during Coach Bronco Mendenhall’s tenure.

The game will be the 40th meeting between Virginia and Navy, although the first since 1994. Virginia has a 11-27 record against the Midshipmen.

“To be selected to play in this year’s Military Bowl is a special honor for our team,” Mendenhall said.

“This is a defining moment for these players who have worked tirelessly to accomplish this goal of returning Virginia football to a bowl game,” Mendenhall said. “The opportunity to play in the shadow of the nation’s capital will be a remarkable way for the team to compete together one more time and to end this season.”

University students are eligible to purchase general admission hillside tickets at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Hillside tickets cost $30, and may be purchased online at VirginiaSports.com. Public sale of tickets in Virginia’s block will begin Monday.

The contest is held annually between teams from the ACC and American Athletic Conference. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:30 p.m., and the game will be broadcast on ESPN.
