The No. 7 Virginia women’s swim and dive team won the ACC Championships this weekend in Greensboro, N.C.
The Cavaliers (10-0) scored 1,382.5 points. Louisville came in second with a score of 1,149.5, while NC State was third with 1,037 points.
The Virginia 400-yard freestyle relay team set an ACC, meet and school record with a time of 3:09.45. The team consisted of sophomore Morgan Hill, junior Eryn Eddy and seniors Laine Reed and Caitlin Cooper. Cooper also won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.54.
Freshman Paige Madden won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:51.81. The Cavaliers also won the 800-yard and 200-yard freestyle relays, with times of 6:55.77 and 1:26.67.
This was Virginia’s 10th conference championship in the last 11 years and 15th overall in program history.
“It’s a great feeling to win the ACC title,” Virginia Coach Todd DeSorbo said. “This program has a lot of great history and rich tradition of great swimming and diving, We are just happy to add to the list and continue the tradition.”
The men’s diving events were also held this weekend. Sophomore Bryce Shelton competed for Virginia, finishing 19th in the platform dive with 256.75 points. Diving scores will be added to swimming scores next weekend.
The men’s ACC Championships begin Feb. 21, also at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. The women’s NCAA Championships will take place from March 14 to 17 in Columbus, Ohio.
