Sophomore infielder Cayman Richardson drove in three runs and scored another.

The Virginia baseball team (22-16, 6-10 ACC) won a pair of midweek home games Tuesday and Wednesday against George Washington (20-16, 6-3 Atlantic 10) and Liberty (22-13, 10-5 Big South).

On Tuesday, freshman designated hitter Brendan Rivoli hit a walkoff double, driving in freshman right fielder Alex Tappen in the 12th inning to beat George Washington 4-3. 

Freshman lefthander Andrew Abbott was credited with the win Tuesday after pitching three perfect innings in relief, striking out five batters. Abbott has not let a runner reach base in his last six innings of work. 

Sophomore righthander Bobby Nicholson was the starting pitcher for the Cavaliers against the Colonials, pitching a career-high six innings and not surrendering a hit until the fifth.

Freshman shortstop Tanner Morris went 3-for-5 against George Washington, scoring a run, while junior first baseman Nate Eikhoff went 2-for-6 with two runs batted in.

Virginia beat Liberty 14-3 on Wednesday behind 11 hits. Sophomore infielder Cayman Richardson drove in three runs and scored another, going 2-for-4 with a walk on the game. Richardson has hit safely in 13 straight games.

Morris went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs, while junior second baseman Andy Weber went 3-for-5, also driving in two runs.

Freshman right-handed pitcher Griff McGarry earned the first save of his collegiate career, pitching three scoreless innings and surrendering only three hits. Fellow freshman right-hand pitcher Kyle Whitten started the game for the Cavaliers, giving up only one run on one hit in four and two-thirds innings on the mound.

The Cavaliers next play in a three-game road series at Louisville this weekend. The first game begins at 6 p.m. Friday at Jim Patterson Stadium.
