Senior defenseman Scott Hooper was selected in the fourth round, 28th overall in the 2018 MLL Draft by the Charlotte Hounds.
This selection is a testament to Hooper’s skill, leadership and work ethic. Throughout his illustrious career at Virginia, he has led the Cavaliers’ defensive unit with his voice, consistency and tenacity. Hooper started 13 of 15 games as a freshman, and is now captain of the Cavaliers.
“He’s a world class talent,” junior defenseman Zach Ambrosino said of Hooper. “[Hooper] has a lot of finesse in his game, he’s really skillful. He’s as good a lockdown defenseman as anyone in the country.”
Hooper has received high praise from his teammates, anchoring Virginia’s defensive unit against some of the best offenses in the nation. This year, he is No. 1 in the ACC with 20 caused turnovers, and has picked up 25 ground balls this year.
Virginia now has a whopping 53 all-time selections in the MLL Draft, trailing only Syracuse and Maryland for the most in the nation all-time. The Cavaliers now have had at least one player drafted in 17 consecutive seasons, dating back to 2002.
