The No. 6 Virginia men’s soccer team played to a 0-0 draw at home against No. 23 Notre Dame Tuesday night in the final home game of the Cavaliers’ regular season.
Virginia (9-2-3, 3-2-2 ACC) outshot the Fighting Irish (8-5-2, 3-3-1 ACC) 15-8, with a 10-2 shot advantage in the second half. Cavalier sophomore goalkeeper Colin Shutler only needed to make two saves, while his counterpart, junior Duncan Turnbull, made four.
Freshman forward Cabrel Happi Kamseu registered three of Virginia’s five shots on target, while fellow freshman forward Daryl Dike had a season-high four shots, none of which were on target.
The Cavaliers came closest to scoring on a corner kick in the 90th minute, when senior defender Prosper Figbe had a header blocked just short of the goal line, and freshman defender Aboubacar Keita put the ensuing rebound over the crossbar.
The draw was Virginia’s third of the season, after a 0-0 match against Maryland in Washington, D.C. and a 1-1 at home against Virginia Tech.
The final regular season match for the Cavaliers will be Friday night at No. 5 North Carolina at 7 p.m. However, with their draw Tuesday night, the Cavaliers clinched a home game in the first round of the ACC Tournament, which will be played Oct. 31 at Klöckner Stadium at a time to be announced.
