Rapper A$AP Ferg will perform a free concert at U.Va during Welcome Week festivities, University Programs Council announced in an email from fourth-year Commerce student and UPC Chair Kyle Nguyen to the student body Tuesday.
The concert, called “An Evening with A$AP Ferg,” will take place in the Amphitheater on Saturday Aug. 24 at 9 p.m, and will lead into UPC’s “Hoos Home” event at the Aquatic & Fitness Center, which will feature free food trucks, crafts, music and games. The concert is free and open only to current undergraduate and graduate students at the University.
A$AP Ferg is an American rapper from Harlem who released his debut single, “Work,” in 2012, and his debut album, “Trap Lord,” in 2013. His last mixtape, “Still Striving,” was released in 2017. The concert precedes the rapper’s newly announced North American tour. According to Rolling Stone, the “Yedi Tour” will start this November in Pittsburgh and aligns with his newest EP, “Floor Seats,” which is set to be released Aug. 16.
The announcement for the concert comes four months after Ferg was scheduled to perform with Aminé at John Paul Jones Arena for UPC’s Spring concert. Ferg ended up cancelling his performance and was replaced by Lil Yachty.
Welcome Week contains a variety of other events, including Rotunda Sing, a show by comedian Jaboukie Young-White and a screening of the movie “Shazam!”
