U.Va. COVID-19 tracker reports one new case over the weekend

The University is starting to invite students to sign up for their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine this week

The University’s COVID-19 dashboard reported zero new cases on Saturday and one new case on Sunday. There are currently 48 active cases in the community, including 37 students and 11 faculty and staff members. These cases bring the total number of cases in the University community during the spring semester to 1,829.

The weekly average of new COVID-19 cases per day has dropped from nine cases in the week of March 28 to five cases last week. While the weekly average for faculty and staff has remained consistent — averaging one new case per day for the past two weeks — the student weekly average has dropped from eight to three over the same time period.

The seven-day average positivity rate has fallen to 0.25 percent compared to the 0.45 percent average reported last Sunday. Moreover, the seven-day average positivity rate for students has gone down from 0.42 percent reported last week to 0.18 percent.

The Blue Ridge Health District’s COVID-19 portal reported six total cases over the weekend, with four on Saturday and two Sunday. This marks a decrease from the 37 cases reported over the last weekend. As of Sunday, the seven-day moving average for the BRHD is 15.1 new cases per day. 

According to the Virginia Department of Health COVID-19 Vaccine dashboard, 79,849 vaccine doses have been administered in Albemarle County and 30,665 doses have been administered in Charlottesville as of Monday. While the VDH announced that the state will move to Phase 2 on April 18, both Albemarle County and Charlottesville have already expanded eligibility to phase 2, which includes anyone 16 and older.

In accordance with Dean of Students Allen Groves’ email to students on Friday regarding vaccine appointments, students began to receive invitations Monday to make a vaccine appointment for their first dose at Community COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic at Seminole Square.

The University’s COVID-19 tracker updates at 4 p.m. Monday through Friday while the BRHD portal updates by 10 a.m. daily.
