Shots fired incident reported near Gordon Ave.

The incident was reported at 9:13 p.m. in the 500 block of 12th Street NW

A shots fired incident was reported to Charlottesville Police in the 500 block of 12th Street NW at 9:13 p.m. Wednesday, the second report of shots fired this week. Timothy Longo, associate vice president for safety and security and chief of the University Police Department, shared the report with the University community in a community alert. 

The 500 block of 12th Street NW is located at the intersection of 12th Street NW and Gordon Ave, near Faith Hope & Love Church and Venable Elementary School. 

Casings were recovered in the area after an investigation. No aspects of the suspect’s appearance are currently known. 

The incident is the second report of shots fired this week, and the third in the past two weeks. 

Multiple shots were reported behind The Standard apartment complex Aug. 21. On Monday, another shots fired incident was reported on the 300 block of Paton Street. 

“Community alerts” are shared with the University community when there is sufficient and timely information that can be released to the community without compromising any on-going investigations. “Timely warnings” are sent when crimes committed pose an “on-going threat” to the safety of the community.”
