One patient is being discharged from U.Va. Health following Sunday’s shooting and the other individual is in “serious” condition, per an update from Eric Swensen, U.Va. Health public information officer. This comes after University President Jim Ryan said Monday one patient was in “stable condition” and another was in “critical” condition.
Five individuals were shot in the incident Sunday. Three football players — second-year student Devin Chandler, third-year student Lavel Davis and fourth-year student D'Sean Perry — were fatally shot. Two additional individuals were injured and were taken to U.Va. Health for treatment.
While the University has not officially confirmed the identities of the two individuals, sources have reported third-year student Mike Hollins, a running back on the football team, underwent a second surgery Tuesday morning.
“Mike will be going in for his 2nd surgery at 8 a.m.,” Brenda Hollins, Mike’s mother, said in a tweet. “Keep praying!!! And please keep praying for all of the families that are going through this horrific tragedy.”
A spokesperson for the Hollins family reported Tuesday afternoon that Hollins was out of surgery and is “doing well.”
The nature of the surgery and the extent of Hollins’ injuries are not clear.
Henrico County Police identified and detained suspect Christopher Darnell Jones, a former member of the football team, Monday afternoon about 80 miles from Grounds. Jones has been charged with three counts of second-degree murder and three counts of possession of a firearm in commission of a felony.
