The Charlottesville Police Department responded to a shots fired call this Saturday located near 766 Prospect Avenue — about a mile from the University Corner. Police remain actively searching for the suspect.

The suspect, described as a thin, black male in dark clothing, has not yet been apprehended. A 16-year-old victim who suffered a gunshot to the stomach remains in stable condition at the University Medical Center.

Officers were initially alerted to shots fired at 10:40 p.m. and found the victim upon arrival. University students did not receive a community alert — email notifications shared when there is timely information about an event— as the incident falls outside of the area that mandates reporting per the Clery Act, and did not present an ongoing threat.

This shooting follows a shots fired incident earlier this month which did not result in any injuries.
