An individual reported being struck by a projectile, and the vehicle left the area in an unknown direction of travel.

After a similar incident only a day prior, the University Police Department received reports of an individual firing a BB-style projectile from a car at 7:52 p.m. Wednesday. According to a community alert sent by Timothy Longo, chief of the University Police Department and vice president for security and safety, the incident took place near the Jefferson Park Avenue and Ruppel Drive intersection.

An individual reported being struck by a projectile, and the vehicle — which Longo said is a small dark colored sedan and possibly a Honda Civic — left the area in an unknown direction of travel.

This is the first community alert of May.

Longo said that anyone with information pertinent to the incident should contact the University Police Department at (434) 924-7166.

Community alerts are shared via email to the University community when there is timely information about a threat that can be released to the community without compromising any ongoing investigations. .
