Sam Brunelle signs with PAOK women’s basketball team

Brunelle announced the start of her professional career Wednesday, after graduating from Virginia in May

Sam Brunelle, the star forward for Virginia women’s basketball and Class of 2024 alumna, announced on both Instagram and X Wednesday that her basketball career is not over and that she has signed with Panthessalonikios Athlitikos Omilos Konstantinoupoliton women’s basketball team.

PAOK women’s basketball team is a professional team based in Thessaloniki, Greece that is a part of the larger PAOK sports club, which includes a variety of other sports teams such as volleyball and soccer. In a reel posted on PAOK’s Instagram, Brunelle notified the fans of how excited she is to come across the sea and play for her new team.

“I’m super excited to be joining the PAOK family,” Brunelle said. “I cannot tell you how excited I am to get to Greece very soon and represent you guys and get a lot of wins this year and a lot of great experiences with you guys in our stands. It’s going to be a fantastic season, so I can’t wait to get there and see you guys soon.” 

Brunelle was a key player for Virginia in the two seasons she played in Charlottesville as a graduate student. In the 2023-24 season alone, she appeared in 30 games and started in 21, averaging 6.2 points and 2.9 rebounds per game. For her performance as a stellar student athlete, she also received the honor of being on the All-ACC Academic Team. 

With Brunelle moving overseas, she will aim to become a star player on the international women’s basketball stage. Cavalier fans should be sure to keep up with her achievements and growth on PAOK’s Youtube
