The ACC field hockey 2024 honors were announced Monday morning, and among the honorees selected by the nine head coaches was Virginia senior back Jans Croon, who was named ACC Defensive Player of the Year. The nomination marked the first Defensive Player of the Year award in program history, while Croon’s place as a member of the All-ACC First Team is her first career all-conference honor.

Croon, a native of San Diego, Calif., spearheaded a Virginia defensive line that kept five shutouts and conceded only 1.43 goals per game during the regular season. She powered the Cavaliers to a top 3 spot in the polls for the majority of her senior campaign, and under her veteran leadership in the defensive third, Virginia has the second-best winning percentage in the ACC and sixth-best nationally.

The back has also tallied a career-high four goals and two assists in 2024. She ranks fifth on the team in points with 16 and has two game-winning goals to her name, including a thrilling one in the fourth quarter against Liberty in September.

Croon is joined on the All-ACC First Team by graduate midfielder Suze Leemans, while graduate midfielder Meghen Hengerer earned a spot on the All-ACC Second Team. Virginia begins postseason play Tuesday versus Syracuse.
