As students returned to Grounds for the Spring 1982 semester, they navigated ice-covered sidewalks and chilly temperatures, which led some student organizations — including the Inter-Sorority Council and Virginia Student Association — to cancel their planned events. However, Assoc. Environmental Sciences Prof. Bruce P. Hayden said these conditions were normal for Charlottesville during the wintertime and that temperatures would rise again in the coming days.

“Formal recruitment shows increase in participants”

The Inter-Sorority Council saw an increased number of bid acceptances at the end of the recruitment period as compared to previous years. While the Inter-Fraternity Council recruitment period had not yet concluded at the time of publication, IFC Chairman for Membership Intake Miles Clements said more than 640 people were participating, up from the fewer than 600 people that had participated the year prior.
