The dominance of Wednesday's season-opener remained unchecked.

No. 9 Virginia delivered a decisive performance Saturday afternoon, sweeping James Madison 7-0 at the Boar’s Head Sports Club in Charlottesville. The Cavaliers (3-0, 0-0 ACC) dominated the Dukes (0-3, 0-0 SBC) in both doubles and singles play.

Virginia set the tone early by decisively clinching the doubles point. At the top spot, seniors Elaine Chervinsky and Melodie Collard overwhelmed James Madison senior Ines Oliveira and junior Sophie Williams with a flawless 6-0 victory. Virginia junior Annabelle Xu and freshman Martina Genis Salas followed suit, earning a 6-4 win against their opponents to secure the doubles point. On court three, graduate student Sara Ziodato and freshman Karolina Kozakova completed the sweep with a 6-4 win.

The momentum continued into singles play, where Virginia players maintained the sweep. Chervinsky, ranked among the top collegiate players, cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 victory over senior Elena Kraleva on court one. On court two, Xu faced a more challenging matchup but held her composure in crucial moments to prevail 6-4, 7-5. Ziodato was in complete control against Williams, winning 6-1, 6-0.

Genis Salas delivered another great performance on court four, defeating Oliveira 6-1, 6-3. On court five, Collard engaged in a competitive first set against freshman Mia Saveljic, ultimately edging her opponent 7-5. She carried that momentum into the second set, which she won 6-0. Freshman Isabelle Lacy rounded out the sweep for Virginia with a 6-2, 6-2 victory on court six.

The Cavaliers’ 7-0 victory highlights their depth and preparedness as the spring season begins. With strong performances across the lineup, Virginia demonstrated why it is a force to be reckoned with this season. Its next challenge will come against fierce rival North Carolina in a highly anticipated matchup Monday at home at 1 p.m.
