Editor's Note: This article has been updated as of 10:30 a.m. Wednesday to reflect changes made to University operations.

The University will not hold in-person classes for a second day Wednesday after a winter storm delivered an estimated 7.3 inches of snow to the University area, according to the National Weather Service. Emails sent to the University community from J.J. Davis, executive vice president and chief operating officer, and Ian Baucom, executive vice president and provost, had previously delayed Wednesday's start to 12 p.m. and canceled in-person classes Tuesday.

Davis is again encouraging professors to hold classes virtually, and for non-designated academic division employees to remain home.

The Weather Service's Winter Storm Warning ended 7 a.m. Wednesday, but Davis said the University's assessment of road conditions led to this decision.

According to the Academic Operations Status Board, similar to Tuesday, some facilities are closed or operating on a modified schedule. For dining options, all dining halls and U.Va. Dine restaurants are operating normally Wednesday, after some modifications Tuesday.

Most recreation facilities are operating on a modified schedule Wednesday. North Grounds Recreation Center and the Aquatic and Fitness Center delayed opening until 9 a.m., with the AFC Pool opening at 11 a.m. Slaughter Recreation Center will open at noon after being closed Tuesday.

Shannon, Brown, Clemons, Fine Arts and Law Libraries will open at noon after being closed or modified Tuesday. Darden and Health Sciences Libraries are operating on a normal schedule. Other modified student facilities include the Rotunda, the Bookstore, Counseling and Psychological Services, Newcomb Hall, Student Health and Wellness and the 1515 Student Center, which all open at noon Wednesday.

The University Transit Service delayed academic routes until noon. The Redline will not operate and the Blueline will operate under a modified route. Parking garages remain open.

In a statement to The Cavalier Daily, University Spokesperson Bethanie Glover said Monday that the status board will continue to be updated with any changes to the operating schedule of University facilities and services. The status board will continue to have the most up-to-date information on closures and operations.

Although the Winter Storm Warning has expired, the Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory until noon Wednesday. The advisory states that freezing rain could leave a glaze on roads, bridges and sidewalks and potentially make travel hazardous. The Weather Service added in the advisory to "prepare for possible power outages."

The storm warning issued Tuesday and Wednesday morning was the second Winter Storm Warning issued for Charlottesville and Albemarle County in 2025. The winter storm that hit Charlottesville Jan. 5 and 6 delivered 4.5 inches of snow to the city, according to the Weather Service. The storm occurred during January term classes and recruitment for the Inter-Sorority Council, and classes were delayed until 12 p.m. Jan. 6.
