The University Judiciary Committee honored graduating representatives and support officers during its final meeting of the semester Sunday evening. Graduating committee members received graduation cords and provided reflections about the ways in which UJC shaped both their individual characters and their collective understandings of community-based justice. The Committee also honored four select Committee members for their contributions to this semester’s term.

Following a road victory over Lafayette Tuesday, No. 3 Virginia men’s lacrosse returned to Charlottesville to take on No. 1 ranked Notre Dame in its regular season finale Sunday. The Cavaliers (11-3, 4-2 ACC) — celebrating their Senior Day — went out in style with a 12-8 victory, donning their throwback uniforms as Virginia honored the 2003 National Championship team at Klöckner Stadium. Thanks in large part to the play of sophomore goalie Matthew Nunes, the Cavaliers secured their second straight victory over the nation’s No. 1 team, with both coming against the Fighting Irish (9-2, 3-2 ACC).

UPDATE: Two emergency maintenance periods will be performed on eduroam following the Monday morning power outage. The first will occur Monday 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. and is not expected to result in any downtime of on-Grounds wifi. The second will occur Tuesday 10:00 to 11:00 p.m. and is expected to result in roughly 20 minutes of downtime of on-Grounds wifi.

Swinging open the front door of Guajiros Miami Eatery is like entering a portal to Florida. With a bustling energy and upbeat music playing, the welcoming wait staff immediately put a smile on my face. Serving many dishes familiar to my mixed Latinx background, Guajiros provided a unique twist on classic Cuban-inspired Miami cuisine that exceeded my expectations. With a varied menu sure to have something for everyone, Guajiros is a must-visit restaurant for anyone spending time in Downtown Charlottesville.

Student Council’s summer 2023 budget was presented by Holly Sims, vice president for administration and fourth-year Batten student, at Tuesday’s meeting with significant cuts from last year’s budget. The proposed budget, which will operate from the end of the spring semester’s exams until the first few weeks of September, allocates a total of $59,852.60 to Student Council — a $34,380.05 decrease from last year’s summer 2022 budget.

No. 3 Virginia men’s lacrosse carried their energy from last week’s victory to defeat Lafayette Tuesday by a score of 20-11. The Cavaliers (10-3, 3-2 ACC) pulled away from the Leopards (6-9, 3-5 Patriot League) in the third quarter with a double-digit lead, and although Lafayette made a final push, the margin was simply too much to overcome. With the high-scoring victory, the Cavaliers end non-conference play 7-1.

Travis Maxey, a 40-year-old Virginia resident, was arrested as a suspect of grand larceny that occurred around 11:49 a.m. in 11th Street Garage near the University Hospital, per a release from the University Police Department. UPD obtained a warrant after the suspect stole a purse from a car and fled the area.

Football is won in the trenches. This is a common saying that almost any coach will reference, especially new Virginia offensive line coach Terry Heffernan. “The trenches” refers to the offensive and defensive line, arguably the most physical area of the game.

Graduate student Justin McCoy entered the semifinal of the ACC Championships as a two-time runner-up at the event. With a chance to clinch his fourth-straight appearance at the national meet, McCoy felt the pressure as he took the mat to face North Carolina State freshman Matthew Singleton.

Following an offensive explosion in a Tuesday night victory against VCU, No. 8 Virginia traveled to South Bend, Ind. to take on Notre Dame. The Cavaliers (32-7, 12-7 ACC) were hoping to avoid back-to-back weekend series losses as were the Fighting Irish (21-15, 9-10 ACC). Ultimately Virginia’s struggles continued, particularly on the pitching side with Notre Dame scoring 25 runs across three games.

No. 8 Virginia men’s tennis — who secured the No. 1 seed in the ACC tournament — cruised to a tournament victory with wins over Miami, Florida State and Duke. The Cavaliers (24-4, 12-0 ACC) defeated the Hurricanes (15-10, 5-7 ACC) in the quarterfinals, the Seminoles (19-8, 8-4) in the semifinals and the No. 2 seed Blue Devils (20-6, 11-1) in the final. The set of victories gives Virginia its third straight ACC tournament victory and has them peaking just as the NCAA championship begins.

No. 4 Virginia men’s lacrosse bounced back from their loss last week to defeat No. 12 Syracuse by a score of 19-12. The Cavaliers (9-3, 3-2 ACC) started off hot and the Orange (8-6, 1-4 ACC) were never able to catch up. With the win, Virginia extended their streak of wins after a loss to 19 games.

No. 11 Virginia women’s lacrosse outplayed rival Virginia Tech Thursday night at Klöckner Stadium, using a powerful second-half run to lead the team to a 15-10 victory. After only having a one-goal lead at halftime, the Cavaliers (11-5, 6-3 ACC) opened the second half with a 3-0 run to break the game open against the Hokies (9-8, 3-6 ACC).

The Virginia women’s basketball team took a sizable step forward in year one under Coach Amaka Agugua-Hamilton. The Cavaliers began their 2022-23 campaign with a 12-0 record, and in late December found themselves ranked in the USA Today Coaches poll for the first time since 2011.

We really are nearing the end of one long school year, and this summer is the perfect chance to relax and unwind — or, if you’re like me, to seek out new experiences. Several people have been indicted on charges of burning an object with the intent to intimidate during the Aug. 11, 2017 torch-lit march down the lawn at the University. These indictments are part of an active criminal investigation connected with the march and the following “Unite the Right rally” that shook Charlottesville almost six years ago.

When I heard about SK Coffee & Co opening up on the Corner from one of my friends, replacing Pie Guy Coffee, I instantly knew I needed to try it out. Especially since this semester, I have prioritized branching out beyond Starbucks and exploring all of the relatively close Charlottesville coffee spots. Ultimately, I found that SK offers a superb cup of coffee — specifically a vanilla latte — and great ambiance, perfect for coffee-shop studying sessions.

Operating out of a snug studio one mile west of the Rotunda, University students are on the air from 8 a.m. to 2 a.m. daily on 100.1 FM. WXTJ is the University’s freeform student radio station, and it’s been a beloved home to student DJs for nearly 10 years.
