The Virginia men’s soccer team last competed nearly two weeks ago in a disheartening 3-0 defeat in the ACC Quarterfinals against Notre Dame. After making it to the ACC Championship game last season, this was not the stepping-stone the Cavaliers wanted.

Ever since the Virginia women’s soccer team arrived at spring camp more than seven months ago, the focus has been on getting back to the NCAA tournament and avenging last season’s heartbreaking College Cup loss to UCLA in penalty kicks. Throughout the regular season, the team spoke of ambitious postseason goals, while reiterating that the next game on the schedule would be the most important.

Virginia men’s basketball coach Tony Bennett announced Wednesday afternoon that the team signed the bulky Brewster Academy senior forward Jarred Reuter to a National Letter of Intent. Earlier in the day, Virginia women’s basketball coach Joanne Boyle also announced high school senior post players Debra Ferguson, Moné Jones and Shakyna Payne would all head to Charlottesville for the 2015-16 season.

Though less than four percent of all high school women's basketball players make it to the next level, in the last month, at the ripe age of 13, middle school students Jada Peebles and Deja Kelly have seemingly realized their childhood dreams of playing collegiate basketball.

English is my dad’s second language, so throughout Fall Break he would see reports on ESPN about Jameis Winston, but he didn’t know what they were about. He asked me what Winston had done this time and wondered whether he was going to be suspended. I wondered the same thing, but of all the “Developing Stories” and red-highlighted text on Sportscenter, nothing mentioned a suspension of the Florida State quarterback. The school is investigating an alleged sexual assault in 2012 and more recent news that Winston had signed autographs for money.

The Virginia women’s rowing team once again dominated its collegiate competition at the 50th annual Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston this weekend, earning the title of top collegiate crew in the Championship Eights for the fourth consecutive year.

Iceland’s historical claims to fame are limited to its fish and aluminum exports, numerous geothermal landmarks and being home to the northernmost capital city in the world.

Coming off the first of two bye weeks this season, the Virginia football team faces Duke in a major Coastal division battle Saturday in Durham, North Carolina. The week off arrived at a great time for the Cavaliers, letting players heal and the team prepare heading into the middle of the conference schedule. Some key players who have missed time because of injuries may see a return to the field against the Blue Devils, including four-game starter sophomore quarterback Greyson Lambert.
