Last Wednesday, the University Guide Service released a statement explaining that they had been suspended by the University for the fall semester. The suspension has since been picked up by national outlets, many of whom have framed this suspension as a reaction against the sensitive topics covered in U-Guides tours. These are serious accusations which, if true, are completely at odds with the mission of the University and the critical thinking it seeks to inspire.

The Honor Committee held its first meeting of the Fall 2024 semester Sunday to formally introduce the new appeal investigator position and outline its responsibilities, after voting to create the role at their last meeting. After battling the elements and Richmond Saturday, Virginia emerged victorious against both and will now take their 1-0 record down south to play Wake Forest Saturday. The Cavaliers are riding high after putting up 497 yards on offense, a total they did not hit once in 2023, en route to their 34-13 victory. This all was driven by an outstanding performance from sophomore quarterback Anthony Colandrea, who threw for 297 yards and two touchdowns plus a rushing touchdown — and most importantly, there were zero turnovers on his part. The Virginia signal-caller will be the key in this upcoming game. If Colandrea plays like he did against Richmond, a Cavalier win is likely.

I always thought I loved the hustle and bustle of the American lifestyle, but after experiencing the unhurried Spanish routine while studying abroad in Valencia this summer, I am rethinking my ways. As I readjust to life in Virginia, I find myself still living on Spanish time, reminiscing on the relaxed rhythm of Valencia that made me pause and soak up the present moment.

The Cavaliers (5-0-0, 0-0-0 ACC) controlled the rainy night from wire-to-wire, tallying 19 shots to the Dukes’ (1-2-2, 0-0-0 Sun Belt) three, none of which were on goal. The shutout is the team’s fourth in five games to begin the 2024 season.

Tall concrete pillars flood the grounds of Klöckner Stadium, several of which are emboldened with national championship banners. Of all the programs housed there, only one has never won the national title — No. 2 women’s soccer. The Cavaliers have been to the NCAA Tournament 33 times since their inaugural season in 1985 but have never claimed a national title.

Déjà vu washed over Scott Stadium as the skies opened up and a weather delay interrupted Virginia’s home opener for the second year in a row. But unlike last season’s post-thunderstorm implosion versus James Madison, the Cavaliers (1-0, 0-0 ACC) held on for a 34-13 victory over Richmond. The Spiders (0-1, 0-0 CAA) were outmatched throughout most of the game.

It seemed for a while like a simple case of one team commanding but never fully separating, one of those games that never feels as close as the final scoreline. Then the eruption happened. Virginia rammed home two goals in two minutes and then another one less than 12 minutes later, turning a nonchalant affair into a 5-0 drubbing of St. Joseph’s on Thursday at Klockner Stadium, a game rescheduled to 3 p.m. from 7 p.m. due to thunderstorm forecasts.
