Although the University’s Faculty Senate passed a vote of no confidence in the Board of Visitors July 11 shortly after former University President Jim Ryan’s resignation, the Student Council initially tried to avoid this route and passed a resolution July 14 calling for student involvement in the search process for the University’s tenth president.

The cinematic history of Marvel’s “Fantastic Four” — a beloved comic-book superhero team since 1961 — can be described as anything but “fantastic”. 1994’s “The Fantastic Four,” to start, had its premiere in theaters abruptly canceled, to ultimately never arrive. The franchise was rebooted with 2005’s “Fantastic Four” and its 2007 sequel “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer,” both of which were poorly received. 2015’s “Fantastic Four”, stylized as “FANT4STIC,” re-rebooted the adaptation — only to bring it to new lows. The three films together sum to a critics score of just 74 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

Virginia women’s soccer traveled to Morgantown, W.Va., Thursday night to face West Virginia in its first game of the 2025 campaign, squeezing out a hard-fought win against the Mountaineers (0-1-0, 0-0-0 Big 12). In 2021, the Charlottesville City Council unanimously voted to provide funding for an organization known as the Central Virginia Violence Interrupters, which formed after the fatal shooting of a young man in the community. Gun violence as a trend had continued to grow in Charlottesville, particularly in the Prospect Avenue area. Thus, the need for CVVI became apparent. Uniquely, this organization employs individuals with a criminal background to create de-escalation techniques to avoid violence, utilizing the skills that they have with the justice system to protect the community.

The University will now have its third president in two months as the Board of Visitors announced the appointment of Paul G. Mahoney as interim president at a special meeting Aug. 4. Mahoney previously served as dean of the School of Law from 2008 to 2016 and is a distinguished Law professor. He will serve in his new role until the search for a new permanent president is completed.

The quarterback position has been a question mark for Virginia ever since the departure of Brennan Armstrong back in 2022. While both Anthony Colandrea and Tony Muskett showed signs of promise in their two seasons, neither shined bright enough to win more games than they lost. The Cavaliers’ passing offense ranked No. 12 in the ACC in 2024, helping them generate just 22.7 points per game.
