Despite starting the night off 0-3, sophomore center fielder Adam Haseley was responsible for starting the Cavalier rally in the seventh. Haseley hit a two-out, two-run homer to to bring the score to 7-3.

​Baseball drops midweek contest to VCU, 7-5

Virginia Commonwealth University (19-10, 5-1 A-10) defeated No. 22 Virginia baseball, 7-5, Tuesday night in downtown Richmond. Freshman lefty Daniel Lynch, a 2015 graduate of Douglas Freeman High School in neighboring Henrico County, started on the mound for the Cavaliers (18-12, 6-6 ACC).


Senior defender Ella Cooper was recognized for senior day in Virginia's last victory against No. 10 Boston College. Cooper then sang the national anthem to being the game, then was a part of the Cavalier defense who kept the Eagles to just four goals at halftime.

Women’s lacrosse looks to continue momentum

In the midst of a recent offensive slump, the No. 13 Virginia women’s lacrosse team had one of their most efficient offensive games of the season last Saturday in a victory over then-No. 10 Boston College, 15-14. The Cavaliers (6-6, 1-4 ACC) will now look to continue this offensive production when they face Navy this Wednesday in Annapolis, Md.


Daniel Pinero and Virginia lost the first and third games of the series against NC State.

​Baseball drops series to NC State

Wearing its orange uniforms and camo caps, No. 14 Virginia baseball hosted No. 23 North Carolina State Sunday in the rubber match of a weekend series at Davenport Field. Six gutsy innings from junior pitcher Ryan Williamson and two-out hitting lifted the Wolfpack (19-9, 5-5 ACC) past the Cavaliers (18-11, 6-6 ACC), 5-2.


Danielle Collins was leading her match Friday before it was stopped for rain. She won her match Sunday against Georgia Tech.

​Women’s tennis drop two weekend matches

It was a big weekend for the No. 12 Virginia women’s tennis team, as they had two important matches against No. 10 Duke Friday and No. 16 Georgia Tech Sunday at the Snyder Tennis courts. However, the Cavaliers (11-9, 6-5 ACC) could not pull out a win and ended the weekend with two tough ACC losses.


Junior goalie Matt Barrett recorded 12 saves Saturday in Virginia's first shut-out win since 2007.

​Virginia blanks Richmond, 9-0

Junior goalie Matt Barrett did not allow the rising Richmond lacrosse team to earn a win against its in-state foe Saturday afternoon. Barrett recorded 12 saves to give the Cavaliers a 9-0 victory — the team’s first shutout win since 2007.


Mary Alati was one of five seniors honored before Saturday's game. The Cavaliers won, 15-14, against Boston College.

Women’s lacrosse edges Eagles on Senior Day

Enduring Boston College’s late offensive surge, the No. 15 Virginia women’s lacrosse team held on to defeat the No. 10 Eagles (6-5), 15-14, on the Cavalier’s (6-6) senior day. The win marks Virginia’s first in the ACC play and third over a top-10 opponent this season.


Junior closer Alec Bettinger allowed the go-ahead run in the 9th inning of Wednesday's game against ODU. The former Hylton High School Bulldog is 0-4 with a 5.17 ERA in 2016.

Baseball blows lead late against Old Dominion

In baseball terms, the Cavaliers were cruising through Wednesday’s game at Davenport Field. Nearly two hours after freshman starter Daniel Lynch had delivered a first-pitch strike, Virginia led 3-0 in the top of the eighth inning. Then, came the grinding halt.

Track and field to compete at Florida Relays in Gainesville

Ever since he was hired as the director of Virginia track and field and cross country, coach Bryan Fetzer has preached a motto to his teams — “Get better everyday in every way.” This weekend, the Virginia outdoor track and field teams will get to set the bar to improve from by competing at the Florida Relays in Gainesville, Fla. from March 31-April 2.

Wynne-ing

If you had told distance runner Henry Wynne when he was starting high school that he would one day win the NCAA national championship in the men’s mile, he would have laughed at you.


Senior attackman James Pannell scored four goals in order to reach his 100th career point Tuesday night. Pannell was just one of several different Cavaliers who joined in the scoring run against VMI.

​Lacrosse gains momentum with win over VMI

The Virginia lacrosse team continued to fight its way through its schedule Tuesday night against Virginia Military Institute. The Cavaliers (5-5, 0-2 ACC) were able to forget their slow start as a 12-goal scoring run became the story of the game, and the team earned a win over the struggling Keydets (1-10, 0-3 SoCon).


Senior midfielder Greg Cohalan's third goal Sunday sent the Cavaliers to overtime against No. 8 Johns Hopkins. Led by its co-captain Cohalan, a tough Virginia team edged the Blue Jays, 13-12.

Men’s lacrosse looks to build off overtime win

Sunday was a familiar scene for coach Dom Starsia and the Virginia lacrosse team, as it defeated rival No. 8 Johns Hopkins in overtime for the third consecutive year. The Cavaliers (4-5, 0-2) won 13-12, in their first victory against a top-20 ranked team all season.
