No. 1 Cavs take on Drexel

The No. 1 Virginia men's lacrosse team takes the field to face No. 20 Drexel Saturday afternoon. The Cavaliers, currently top-ranked in major polls and the unanimous top pick in the coaches' poll, begin their title defense without the services of departed seniors Bray Malphrus, John Haldy and Adam Ghitelman.

Team enters Pirate Classic

The Virginia softball team looks to test its hot start against three tough pitchers at the East Carolina Pirate Classic this weekend. The Cavaliers (4-0) play Fordham (0-0) twice, so they will most likely meet the Rams' star senior pitcher Jen Mineau, a Second-Team Pre-Season All-American pick by ESPN.com.

Tigers take down Cavaliers

Despite a dominant performance from junior guard Jontel Evans, the Virginia men's basketball team fell 60-48 at Clemson yesterday evening and has now dropped three of its past four games. Evans posted 17 points while shooting 72.7 percent from the field and opened the game with a perfect 6-of-6.

Lax preps for spotlight

Following an enthralling 2011 championship campaign, the unanimous preseason No. 1 Virginia men's lacrosse team aims to handle the pressure of massive expectations and win a second consecutive national title when it opens its 2012 season this weekend. As in 2011, Virginia enters the season as the clear favorite to win the championship, with both the USILA Coaches and Inside Lacrosse polls deeming the Cavaliers the nation's top squad.

Everything seems to be in place this year for the Virginia softball team. Stacked with both power hitters and elite pitchers, the squad looks like the best Virginia has seen in years. The sparkling early-season run for the No. 9 Virginia women's tennis team met its end Friday evening in the first round of the ITA National Team Indoor Championships as the team fell in a tough 4-2 loss to No.

Heels dominate Virginia

The No. 21 Virginia men's basketball team led No. 5 North Carolina by 3 with 16 minutes 50 seconds remaining, but the Tar Heels (21-4, 8-2 ACC) closed the game with a 33-12 run and finished off the Cavaliers (19-5, 6-4 ACC) Saturday afternoon in Chapel Hill, 70-52. Senior forward Tyler Zeller manhandled an undersized Virginia frontcourt all day, finishing with 25 points, 9 rebounds and 3 steals. The Cavaliers' star senior forward Mike Scott finished with 18 points, but missed eight shots on a day when he needed to be perfect to carry his teammates, who shot just 29 percent.
