The No. 12 Virginia women's cross country team left nothing to chance in its quest for a trip to the NCAA Championships as it claimed the Southeast Region Championship Saturday morning, earning an automatic bid to next week's national race.

Fed up with the NBA

I have always liked men's college basketball better than the NBA. I never really experienced a seminal moment when I decided that pro basketball wasn't doing it for me.

Yellow fever

The sky over Charlottesville was perfectly clear Saturday afternoon, but somehow a steady rain beat down upon Scott Stadium.

Placing the blame

Florida State women's soccer coach Mark Krikorian - after deciding to leave seven of his starters at home during the ACC Tournament last week so they could rest up for the NCAA Tournament - was suspended for one game, fined $25,000 and forced to write a letter of apology to the other coaches and players in the ACC. When I first heard the story and the punishment, I thought it was a blatant case of the ACC merely trying to protect a revenue stream - not necessarily from women's soccer, but from its entire slate of championship tournaments.
