Up-and-down season continues on weekend

With just two games remaining in its regular season, the Virginia women's tennis team is looking to knock out Clemson and Georgia Tech for one last hurrah before hopefully heading into the NCAA Tournament. The Cavaliers have had a recent string of success, after two wins last weekend against No.

Squad looks to claim ACC crown

Coach Jason Vigilante put it simply when describing his feelings about the upcoming ACC Outdoor Championships: "I'm excited." Following a great performance in its only home meet of the season, the Virginia track and field team looks to continue its success in this weekend's ACC Outdoor Championships in Clemson, S.C. The women's team in particular will try to improve on its fourth-place finish behind Florida State, Virginia Tech and North Carolina last year, while the men's team is looking to defend its championship, which it split last year with Florida State. The men's team is not concentrating on past success, however, and instead is looking ahead to see what it can accomplish with this year's roster. "Every year's a different year," Vigilante said.

Where does your fandom come from?

I am often asked, having been born and raised in Virginia, "Why are you a Cowboys fan?" Well, there's a photo in an album at my house that shows my cousin, who was 13 at the time, placing a Dallas Cowboys balloon in my tiny less-than-1-year-old hand as I lay on a blanket at my great-aunt's house. This, I believe, was the beginning of my love for the Dallas Cowboys. You see, my mom and my cousin are both big Cowboys fans.

Wahoo-what

The top three men's basketball headlines Sunday afternoon on the Virginia athletic department's Web site read as follows: Jeff Jones Leaving Virginia Basketball Program; Sylven Landesberg Not Returning To Virginia; Tristan Spurlock Leaving Virginia Basketball Program. None of this was new information, with the most recent article posted April 6, but I still found myself shaking my head at the sight.

Jackets

Virginia softball fell victim to No. 10 Georgia Tech during a three-game sweep last weekend. The Yellow Jackets (35-6,11-1 ACC) diffused a red-hot Virginia squad, handing the Cavaliers (23-17, 7-4 ACC) their first ACC series loss on the season. Georgia Tech's freshman pitcher Hope Rush led the Yellow Jackets to a 5-2 win in the first game.
