The top (and bottom) of their class

They're about as different as night and day, fire and water, chalk and cheese, Mario and Luigi and, well, Charlottesville and Blacksburg. Virginia coach Dave Leitao and Virginia Tech coach Seth Greenberg, both talented bench generals, have done pretty well for themselves over the past few years.

Virginia begins six games over span of four days

After a disappointing weekend against Florida State, the Virginia softball team will try to stop a three-game skid with tomorrow's midweek doubleheader against Radford at home. The first game will begin at 4 p.m., with the second game scheduled for 6 p.m. Following Virginia's struggles over the weekend, senior captain Meghan O'Leary said the team is focused on developing a steady level of play going into Wednesday. "I think we really need to pull together -- get all on the same page as far as energy and heart," O'Leary said.

Softball unable to keep up with FSU

Florida State came to Charlottesville riding a seven-game win streak. The Seminoles left with a 10-game streak after taking three straight games from Virginia (7-16, 2-4 ACC), during which the Cavaliers never led and only managed to tie the score once, by a combined score of 22-5. In the first game, Florida State (21-9, 4-2 ACC) jumped all over junior pitcher Karla Wilburn on its way to a 9-1 victory.

Yellow Jackets sting Cavs in second half

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- When senior Sean Singletary scores 20 points and his support staff knocks down 39.1 percent of its 3-point field goals, Virginia is a tough team to keep up with. Georgia Tech's 13-24 shooting from the 3-point line and the 18 points apiece from seniors Anthony Morrow and Jeremis Smith, however, was enough for the Yellow Jackets to trump the Cavaliers' offensive output.

Hewitt knew it

There were many outstanding performances in yesterday's game: Anthony Morrow's ridiculous 6-for-9 3-point shooting on one side and Singletary's double-double on the other.
