Virginia downs Navy in scrimmage

This past weekend's unseasonably warm temperatures helped bring out Virginia men's lacrosse fans as the Cavaliers scrimmaged the Navy Midshipmen on the University Hall Turf Field. Although Virginia dominated the game and outscored Navy 10-6 on the day, it was the Midshipmen who went up 2-0 early in the first. "I think Navy was a much-improved team from the one we saw in the fall," Virginia coach Dom Starsia said.

Unpatriotic and loving it

I think I just heard a collective sigh of relief from the '72 Dolphins. Now, 19 games after the start of the 2007 season, they can finally rest easy knowing that they are still the only team in NFL history to ever post a perfect season.

Women's tennis edged by Buckeyes

After the Virginia women's tennis team won two of the first three points against Ohio State, the Cavaliers lost the next three to the Buckeyes, falling 4-3. After Ohio State freshman Paloma Escobedo and senior Caitlin O'Keefe defeated Virginia's tandem of sophomore Jennifer Stevens and junior Hampton Williams to start the match, the Cavaliers (1-3) recovered to take the next two doubles matches to win the doubles point. In singles, the two teams went back and forth initially, as O'Keefe and Virginia junior Amanda Rales both won their matches in straight sets, giving the Cavaliers a 2-1 advantage.

Déjà vu all over again

The beauty of the script is that it starts as soon as it needs to start, always allowing just enough time for the opponent to win the game in the final moments or to tie the game and win the overtime.

Late second-half surge not enough for Cavs to nab win

By Paul Montana Cavalier Daily Senior Associate Editor COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- When the Virginia men's basketball team cut a double-digit, second-half deficit to 5 with less than two minutes remaining, it appeared that the Cavaliers would avenge their blown leads of late by robbing Maryland in College Park.

Who will America support?

In case you hadn't heard, there is a rather significant football game this Sunday. Maybe you've forgotten about the NFL in its unnecessary absence this past weekend, though it's likely the barrage of tired media hype for the event no doubt pervaded even the most sheltered sports fan's thoughts during the bye week.
