Football team opens practice tomorrow

Al Groh and the Virginia Cavaliers officially begin practice tomorrow afternoon at 6:15pm. The session is open to the public and will be held in the fields behind University Hall. The Cavaliers are also scheduled to practice Saturday Aug.

Spinner's stint as a 'Skin may be coming to an end

Former Cavalier quarterback Bryson Spinner opened training camp for the Washington Redskins on Monday throwing passes with quarterbacks Mark Brunell and Patrick Ramsey, but the signing of first round pick Jason Campbell means Spinner's stay with Washington is likely to wrap up soon. Skinner, who played for George Welsh and Al Groh in 2000 and 2001 transferred to Division IAA Richmond and finished out his college playing career there.

Correction

The July 14, Sports article titled, "New student fan group gears up for approaching season," inaccurately stated the University has not had a University supported fan group in the last 100 years.In fact, during the 1992-1993 season, the athletic department approved of a fan group for men's basketball.

As Brock Berlin picked apart the Virginia secondary last November in Charlottesville and effectively killed Virginia's chances of winning the ACC title, I couldn't help but say to myself 'Phillip Brown was supposed to solve this problem.' The cornerback was the number one ranked recruit in the state of Virginia coming out of high school in 2003.
