Point guard commits to play for Virginia

Brewster Academy (N.H.) swingman Adrian Joseph orally committed to play basketball for Virginia next fall. The 6-foot-7, 200-pound Joseph is projected to play small forward at the collegiate level.

Field hockey drops squeaker to Tribe

William & Mary forward Kelly McQuade collected a loose ball in front of the Virginia goal and scored from short range five minutes into the overtime session, thwarting a Virginia comeback effort and securing victory for the Tribe. The Cavaliers fell behind early in the game, allowing three William & Mary goals in the first 248 seconds.

Hammond receives honors

Virginia women's soccer midfielder Kelly Hammond was honored with two national awards this week. Hammond was named to the Soccer American Team of the Week as well as the Soccer Buzz Elite Team of the Week. Hammond was recognized for her role in Virginia's Sept.

The ACC began its fall meetings Monday in Charlottesville, but uncertainty remains as to whether the league will add a 12th member in the near future. "That's something that the president's council will be handling," Virginia athletic director Craig Littlepage said.

Schaub throws well, Hughes steps up in win

As the coin flipped in the air Saturday afternoon, Virginia quarterback and captain Matt Schaub remembered what his coach had told him before the game -- if the Cavaliers won the toss, they would elect to receive the ball to start the game. "I wanted us to get the ball first, and have a first crack at it, develop a rhythm and set the tone for the game," Schaub said.
