Virginia tries to end losing skid against Yellow Jackets

The Virginia women's basketball team looks to break its five-game losing streak and win its first conference game when Georgia Tech comes to town tonight for a 7:30 game at University Hall. The Cavaliers, who enter tonight's game with a 5-9 overall record and a dismal 0-4 conference record, remain optimistic about the season. "We lost all our ACC games," junior guard Anna Prillaman said.

Virginia places 18th in fall Sears Cup Rankings The University earned 172 points from the competition of its cross country, field hockey, football, soccer and volleyball teams to rank 18th in the 2002-2003 Sears Directors' Cup standings. Cavaliers hold off Tar Heel rally, 79-72

After opening up a first half lead of as many as 20 points, Virginia (10-3, 1-1 ACC) held off two second-half surges by North Carolina (9-5, 1-1) and won its home ACC opener, 79-72, Saturday. Junior guard Todd Billet scored 17 of his game-high 24 points in the first half behind 5-of-7 shooting on three-pointers as Virginia exploited a UNC zone in the first half, shooting 57 percent and opening up a 48-30 halftime lead. Weather conditions leave Virginia out in the cold in bowl selection process

BLACKSBURG -- Saturday's loss to rival Virginia Tech could not have been more deflating for both the Cavaliers and the Virginia fans who made the long trip to Blacksburg and watched the game in the snow and driving wind. Despite the loss to Virginia Tech, the Cavaliers deserved more respect than they received, and a bowl bid to the Continental Tire Bowl should sicken any fan of good college football. The Virginia players knew they were a better team than they were able to show in Blacksburg, and so did their fans.
