Virginia narrowly escapes Bears at home

Despite finding itself trailing an opponent for the first time in 10 games, the No. 2 Virginia men's soccer team overcame an ugly first half to defeat Mercer, 2-1, last night before a crowd of 1,193 at Klockner Stadium. Although the Cavaliers (11-0-1) demonstrated their technical superiority from the opening whistle, the Bears (7-6) refused to be intimidated in their first appearance against Virginia.

Groh talks defense after Tar Heel loss

As most of the University community took a long weekend to read and recuperate in the middle of the semester, Virginia football coach Al Groh took some time to examine the Cavaliers' defense in his weekly press conference on Monday. Jones severely injured in accident

Virginia freshman cornerback Randy Jones, a redshirt this season, was critically injured in a car accident that occurred Sunday night near Stoneville, N.C., according to the Greensboro News & Record. Jones' oldest brother, Travis Wilson, 22, reportedly was driving and has been charged with three counts of felony death by motor vehicle and driving while impaired.
