Men's soccer stays perfect against Rams

Zwarich shatters kills mark in marathon Cav win

Led by a record-breaking performance from senior middle blocker Deanna Zwarich, the Cavalier women's volleyball team ended a four-match losing streak by squeezing out a three-hour 3-2 win against Duke. The Cavs (5-6, 1-0 ACC) had to rally to take the last two games after the Blue Devils (9-4, 0-1) grabbed a 2-1 lead. "We started out well and then relaxed a little bit in the second and third games," Zwarich said.

Golfers seize second place in tournament

The Virginia men's golf team was in the lead through 36 holes of play at the Coca-Cola Tennessee Tournament of Champions, but Louisiana State grabbed the lead in yesterday's final round, relegating the Cavs to second. The Cavaliers shot an eight-under par 856, while the Tigers won with a 13-under 851. Cav senior Cameron Yancey led the field in individual competition before yesterday's round, but he finished in sixth with a four-under 212.

Moses swims his way to silver in Olympics

Early yesterday morning, U.S. swimmer Ed Moses was half a world away, applying the finishing strokes to a performance that earned him an Olympic silver medal in the men's 100-meter breaststroke. Moses, a third-year College student who swam for the Cavaliers for two seasons, finished in 1 minute, 0.73 seconds, only 27 hundredths of a second behind Italy's Domenico Fioravanti.

Cavalier seniors earn preseason tennis rankings

After posting successful seasons in the spring, Virginia tennis players Brian Vahaly and Huntley Montgomery earned national collegiate preseason rankings for the 2000-01 season. Vahaly is ranked third in the nation for singles and Montgomery is 27th.
