Men's soccer signs quartet of recruits

After strong ACC and NCAA Tournament runs last year, Virginia men's soccer successfully courted and signed newcomers Alecko Eskandarian, Ryan Kelly, Jake LeBlanc and Matt Oliver for the 2000 season. Eskandarian, Kelly and LeBlanc will strengthen the midfield and forward positions, while Oliver will solidify the defense. Eskandarian and Kelly both honed their scoring skills playing high school soccer in New Jersey.

Driscoll finishes second to lead golfers to title

The No. 24 Virginia men's golf team won its first team title of the season over the weekend, edging East Tennessee State by two strokes in the Furman Intercollegiate competition in Greenville, S.C. Virginia senior James Driscoll tied Maryland's Keith Unikel for the tournament lead at seven under par (209) but lost on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff.

Defense never rests in title chase

The phrase "defending champions" is especially appropriate for the 2000 Virginia men's lacrosse team, a squad that is making a strong run at another national title using a tough, experienced core of defensemen. "We have an experienced group," Cavalier coach Dom Starsia said.

Fromal lifts Cavs to win over Devils

DURHAM, N.C-On a cold, windy, rainy day at Koskinen Stadium, the sun broke through the cloudy sky just long enough to shine on Virginia senior midfielder Amy Fromal as she scored the game-winning goal in the closing minutes against the No.

Cavs secure pair of wins in Durham

DURHAM, N.C.-After surrendering only two earned runs in eight innings Saturday at Duke, Kevin Shrout, Virginia baseball's 6-foot-2 righthander, said his team is talented enough to win 35 games. Venus should stay in tennis orbit, resist pull of dad's advice

I've played it out in my mind time and time again. Would I do my best John Elway, triumphantly leaving the industry while at the pinnacle of my career (which could have been my sophomore year of high school for all I know)? Would I pull a Sugar Ray Leonard, retiring at the top before lugging my aching bones back into the journalistic arena for a couple of more rounds ... or columns? Actually, neither. As of right now, I'm finished.

Spartans showed their toughness while injury sidelined Cleaves

After watching Florida use its depth to dismantle the Duke and North Carolina men's basketball squads en route to the NCAA championship game, I thought they stood a chance against Michigan State. While watching Monday night's 89-76 Spartan victory over the Gators, I expected Florida's press-and-run style of play to make the game competitive.
