Virginia women's lacrosse opened their season with a hard-fought win in overtime against No. 15 Navy. The victory marks the No. 8 Cavaliers' (1-0, 0-0 ACC) sixth win in seven meetings with the Midshipmen (0-1, 0-0 Patriot).
With the win, the Cavaliers were able to avenge one of their three losses from last year’s national championship run — a 17-9 loss to Loyola in Baltimore — as well as start the season with a quality win against a top-15 team.
The Panthers (8-3, 2-1 ACC) came into this meet as a heavy favorite over the Cavaliers (7-5, 0-3 ACC) who have yet to win an ACC dual.
