Student theater troupe tackles 'Scottish Play'

The genius of Shakespeare is in the details. Many theater companies have tried to make their productions both relevant and historically accurate by paying attention to the intricacies of Shakespeare's vision. In the 15th century, audiences were both challenged and entertained by Shakespeare's innovative characters and plots.

Along with popped collars and Mr. Jefferson, this University is known for at least one other trait: competition. Admissions are highly competitive, as many high school seniors can appreciate this time of year, and our sports teams and academic departments regularly compete for national rankings. With all the competition around Grounds, this week's tableau gets in on the action. As early as January, tableau staffers were clamoring to review Frank Miller's Sin City, last weekend's top-grossing movie -- its stylized visuals, all-star cast and gritty storyline caught the eye of some of our best movie critics. With all the staffers begging to review the movie, we couldn't help but hold a little competition.

Day Two of MACRoCk 2005

James Madison University hosted the Mid-Atlantic College Radio Conference, or MACRoCk, last weekend, marking the eighth year in a row that JMU has hosted the indie, or independent, rock festival. Admittedly, this was my first year at MACRoCk and, for reasons beyond my control, I was only able to attend the festival Saturday, even though it is a two-day festival that began Friday.

'Beauty Shop' proves hair-larious

In this amusing comedy, Gina (Queen Latifah) has relocated from Chicago to Atlanta to earn big money as a master hairstylist in an upscale hair salon, while her daughter Vanessa (Paige Aurd) attends a performing arts school.
