Etheridge album mere copy of 'Skin'

The songs on Melissa Etheridge's new album, "Lucky," sound like the samples that didn't make it onto her previous effort, "Skin." While it is refreshing that there are still women in the business who play and write their own music, this album begs the question, "Why didn't somebody else write the music to this one?" The only song Etheridge did not write or co-write is "Breathe." Unfortunately, those assistant writers fell into the same trap Etheridge did -- sounding like all the other songs.

Diane Keaton has that special 'Something'

"Something's Gotta Give" is a slow burner of a romantic comedy. It is disarmingly genuine in a genre that has been swamped by toilet humor and lowbrow physical comedy. In this film, instead of driving the plot toward the next joke setup, director and screenwriter Nancy Meyers allows her characters to interact.

'Sun' never sets on Chesney's success

Country music's biggest male star and unlikely sex symbol returns with his ninth album, "When the Sun Goes Down," his first record since March 2002's smash hit "No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problem." Kenny Chesney has slowly evolved into country's biggest idol and top-seller since his modest beginnings in 1994. Chesney makes it no secret that he loves nothing more than spending his time in the sun in the Caribbean islands between recordings and tours.

DiFranco's 'Educated Guess' passes test

I will admit, Ani DiFranco is an acquired taste. She is one of those artists who is considered by the majority of people to be somewhat strange and exotic, who has been around for a long time, and it takes a good friend to sit you down and finally convince you to try her out.

Elbow's new album pleases entire 'Cast'

Four words: Album of the year. If you count the 2003 British release date, the above sentence certainly applies to Elbow's sophomore effort, "Cast of Thousands." If we insist on being technical and sticking to last week's U.S release date, it still seems unlikely that the album will become unseated from the top three or so in the months to come. Simply stated, this album is stunning.

'Cheaper': why you hate children

Imagine this: After a long and trying day at work, you come home ready for some rest and relaxation, but rather than hitting up the recliner, you are greeted by the eager arms of your 12 children.
