Virginia men's tennis hosts ITA Atlantic Regional

When Virginia hosts the ITA Atlantic Regional this weekend, its players will take the first step toward defending a title their injured teammate sophomore Mitchell Frank cannot. The main draw of the four-day tournament begins Friday, and winners from both the doubles and singles flights will receive automatic bids to November’s ITA National Individual Indoors tournament in Flushing Meadows, NY. Last year, Frank won the National Indoors but will miss this year’s tournament after undergoing season-ending knee surgery in August.

System hacked, law center says

The Southern Environmental Law Center said Tuesday its computer system was hacked. “Highly confidential information” was taken without consent or authorization, center spokesperson Kathleen Sullivan said in a statement. The center has reported the security breach to the FBI and plans to take “any action necessary to address the breach and the unauthorized release of confidential information,” according to the statement. The center is a regional nonprofit based in Charlottesville that attempts to protect the health and environment of states in the southeast United States, including Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama and the Carolinas.

Policy changes could lead to increased student loan forgiveness

Changes to federal student loan repayment plans could lead to an increase in student loan forgiveness, according to a study published Tuesday by the New America Foundation, a nonpartisan Washington think tank. Under current rules borrowers must pay 15 percent of their discretionary income toward their loans, and the government forgives the remaining balance after 25 years of payments.

Several factories in and around Charlottesville supplied uniforms and artificial limbs to soldiers.

Men's squad hosts home finale vs. Virginia Tech

The Virginia men’s soccer team looks to put the finishing touches on an encouraging week when it faces off against Virginia Tech at Klöckner Stadium Friday evening in the squad’s final home contest of the regular season. The Cavaliers (7-6-1, 1-4 ACC) come off a 3-2 win against Wright State Tuesday that served as an important rebound from an embarrassing 4-1 loss to Wake Forest at home late last week.

Cavs rebound, snag 3-2 victory vs. Wright State

The Virginia men’s soccer team bounced back from Friday’s disappointing 4-1 loss to Wake Forest with a 3-2 victory Tuesday evening against non-conference foe Wright State. Despite the thin margin of victory, coach George Gelnovatch saw tangible signs of progress. “We’re going to take all the positives we can out of this game, which are three great goals,” Gelnovatch said.
